Bartlett School of Architecture Summerschool with Melissa Appleton, Chryssanthi Perpatidou, Anthony Staples & Zoe Quick The Bartlett Summerschool was set up four years ago as part of UCL's Widening Participation Scheme designed to give pupils from inner London Secondary Schools a chance to experience a sneak-preview of higher education. Since then the Bartlett Summerschool has firmly established itself as a key event in the school's calendar, exploring those parts of architecture sometimes left at the margin of a tight academic schedule during term time. Students from all over the world participate in a unique and intense design-led programme. During the Summerschool, collaboration is encouraged and team-work essential to realise some of the larger than life projects that we omplete every year. The two week effort culminates in a presentation of videos, performances, recordings and often large-scale animated structures exploring the boundaries between art, theatre, architecture and the city. The projects are highly site-specific to a choosen urban terrain (King's Cross, the Lea Valley etc.) where change is imminent. This way, we contribute towards a wider discussion of how London will evolve in the future, socially, culturally and architecturally. Jan Kattein has helped to set-up the Bartlett Summerschool and has been leading Design Unit 2 for four consecutive years. read the briefs: 2006 2007 2008 | ||||
