Jan Kattein studied Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL in London where he was awarded his Diploma with distinction and his Masters with commendation. He has worked for Jestico & Whiles and Peter Barber Architects where he was among others running the multiple award winning Donnybrook Quarter project.
While practicing, he has always maintained a close link with the university. He now co-runs his own undergraduate design unit.
Jan Kattein Architects was established in 2003. In 2007 the practice acquired and converted its own premises located in Islington, near Angel.
The practice portfolio covers a number of disciplines including Urban Design, Theatre Design and Architecture in Germany, Austria and the UK. The scale of the projects ranges from a £57 million masterplan for Blackpool to a 6 thousand Euro stage design. The Kai Tak City Project won a Royal Academy First Time Exhibitor Award. The stage design for Le Nozze Di Figaro won the International Ring Award.
The work of the practice has been published and discussed in the press internationally. Our clients include local authorities, private individuals, developers and opera houses - each of them them with a commitment to design.
