Studionorth budget: £30k, private client, str. engineer: Jampel Davison & Bell Structural Engineers

Studinorth is a multi-disciplinary creative enterprise with its own shopfront gallery, workshop, meeting room and office space. The premises - a former off-licence - have been purpose designed to link exhibition space with making space and designing space. The studio provides a mixture of highly specific workspaces to cater for it's occupants professional needs and a number of un-programmed spaces that allow the creative project to expand beyond the disciplinary boundaries encouraing ad-hoc collaborations and skills exchange. Instead of internal doors, a series of curtains suspended from the ceiling act as room-dividers and allow for flexible use of the space. Every architectural element is carefully chosen to serve a very particular purpose combining the new and the old, the re-claimed and the high-tech, the functional and the decorative.
