Bispham Station [2006]

Bispham Station was designed by the Blackpool Council Architect John Charles Robinson in the early 1930s in Blackpool neoclacicism. The building occupies a key location on the north shore of the promenade which features the Blackpool Illuminations every autumn. We were comissioned to transform the station into a Tramway and Illuminations Visitor Centre displaying the Lancastrian Transport Trust's collection. The proposal retains the quirky neo-classical facade of the building but the building's presence is accentuated with a spectacular undulating copper roof. The proposal transforms the station into a landmark building where golden light streaming out of the sickle shaped roof lights at night will provide a climax to the experience of the Illuminations.
